Why You Need To Stop Worrying About Others And Do Your Best Work
We all have moments where we worry about what others think of ourselves. It could be simple things like what a person thinks of your outfit, or it could be much larger like worrying that someone close to you is disappointed in you.
It's natural that we look for approval from others, it's in our nature as humans. However there is such a thing as seeking too much approval, and being too worried when you shouldn't be.
Especially when pursuing a personal interest as a lifestyle, others can be difficult to ignore. You are looking to make something for yourself that few people will, a lifestyle you enjoy and can be proud of that is uniquely yours. As a result, you will meet the naysayers who don't share your vision, who might even say it is impossible.
The important thing is to keep your eye on your prize and ignore the negative people and comments. If you believe in yourself, that is what you need to get work done. With time, you will prove to others that your personal lifestyle was possible and that you were capable of achieving it.
Not only are there the people who say you shouldn't be doing what you are doing, there are people who will tell you what else you need to be doing. While it's important to listen to what others have to say, especially customers, you shouldn't let others make the decision for you.
Who tells a CEO what to do, is it their board of trusted advisers, or is it there customers?
To be honest it's a little bit of both. While a CEO will listen to customers and make decisions based on feedback from the people using the product, their board will have a much larger influence.
Even more importantly is in the end it's the CEO making a decision, and a good CEO will be able to make quick and smart decisions based on what they know, not based on how others will react.
Once you stop worrying about others, helping yourself becomes easier.
You become less stressed. Let's face it, worrying about others makes us more stressed and anxious. Both of these have negative impacts on you and the work you do. Getting rid of both helps you do your best work by freeing your mind to focus on more important things.
It becomes easier to grow. Without worrying about others you are more free to follow the things that interest you. You grow more as a person and in your hobbies and interests when you pursue them unburdened by what others might think.
You are more genuine. One of the best effects of not worrying is that you are more genuine. This helps you forge better and more supportive relationships. While it may seem counter-intuitive, not worrying is the key to having nothing to worry about in the first place.
You can focus on what YOU want to do. You are only limited by your beliefs. If you let others determine what your beliefs and values are, how will you ever achieve what you truly want? Once you stop worrying it becomes easier to focus on the work you actually want to do, making you happier and more productive.
When you stop worrying about what others think, the possibilities of life open up to you. No longer do you get stuck and afraid, you become an unstoppable force. There will always be naysayers but there will always be supporters as well.
When it comes to a personal lifestyle, you should be your biggest supporter and you can't do that when you are constantly worried, anxious and stressed out.
